You do not want to miss the awe-inspiring talent of Gunhild Carling, Sweden’s Queen of Swing, on full display once again as she graces the stage for another unforgettable WMSE Big Band Grandstand performance!

WMSE’s 10th Annual Big Band Grandstand is a cherished holiday season tradition, taking place at Turner Hall Ballroom on Sunday, December 8th at 4 p.m. The event is presented annually by Bob and Jenny Hillis in honor of Bob and Genie Friedman, providing enjoyment for all ages.

The evening will commence with a special DJ set by WMSE’s very own Dewey Gill, followed by Gunhild Carling, the virtuoso known for her trombone, bagpipes, trumpet, recorder, and string instrument mastery. You will have the time of your life as Gunhild, with her big band accompaniment, showcases her musical prowess, combining multiple instruments within a single song, all while effortlessly transitioning into tap dance and vocals.

There will be a Silent Auction boasting amazing items and experiences, including Green Bay Packers Tickets courtesy of TicketKing, a Film Buff package from Milwaukee Film valued at $1,500. Additionally, guests could bid for the chance to be a WMSE DJ FOR THE DAY or win fantastic gift cards from great local restaurants and businesses through the gift tree.

We are celebrating the 10th edition of the Big Band Grandstand Silent Auction and Gala by adding additional seating and offering reserved four-top tables as well as cheaper general admission tickets.

No more having to scramble for a table! Purchase your reserved table in advance and secure your spot today. Dance, mingle, and peruse the silent auction.

Proceeds from the Big Band Grandstand support the upkeep of WMSE’s studios, digitization of the station’s jazz library, and powers the WMSE Live Jazz stream 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Please note that group rates are typically offered for groups of 20 or more, but are sometimes offered for groups of 10 or more. Discounts range from 10-20% but vary from show to show (not all shows support a group rate due to high demand or other restrictions).

To efficiently create a positive and safe experience for all patrons, only small purses (13″W x 4″D x 9″H and smaller) are allowed into the theater and all are subject to search.

All other bags including backpacks and oversized purses are strictly prohibited and bag storage is NOT available at The Pabst, The Riverside, Turner Hall Ballroom or The Back Room @ Colectivo.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE PROHIBITED AND ARE NOT ALLOWED INTO ANY OF THE VENUES.
Weapons, laser pens, signs, banners, electronic smoking devices (vapes, Juuls, etc.), oversized bags, backpacks, outside food and beverages including water, cans, bottles, alcohol, illegal substances, iPads/tablets, selfie sticks, laptops, professional audio recording devices (unless approved by artist), and any professional photography equipment. The use of vape pens inside the venues are prohibited as well.
